Porto União Map Poster & Print
Porto União lies in Santa Catarina, on the Iguaçu River, and forms a single urban area with União da Vitória in Paraná. The two cities were once one, and after the Contestado conflict of the early twentieth century they were divided between the two states. The line between them follows the railway through the urban area.
From above, the combined town reads as one continuous grid, with the railway running through it and the state border invisible except for the tracks. The Iguaçu River curves along the edge of the urban area, and bridges and roads cross it to connect the region.
A Porto União map poster tells an unusual story in purely visual terms: a single townscape split by an administrative line, with a river and a railway as its main features. In black and white, the pattern of streets on both sides reads as one, which is exactly its charm.

The Iguaçu River
The river curves past the town with wide bends, providing a strong natural edge to the urban area and linking it to the history of river navigation in the region.
Twin-city grid
Streets on both sides of the border follow a continuous grid, so on the map Porto União and União da Vitória read as one town rather than two separate cities.
