Saurimo is the capital of Lunda Sul province in northeastern Angola, on the high, gently rolling plateau of the country's interior. From above, the city has a compact centre with a fairly regular street grid, surrounded by residential areas that spread outward along the main roads.
With no coastline and no major river through the centre, the map's shape comes mostly from its roads and from the transition between built-up and open land. Past the edges, the streets break up into tracks, scattered settlements and savanna, and some streams and wetter hollows cross the landscape.
