Steinbach Map Poster
Steinbach lies in southeastern Manitoba, about an hour's drive from Winnipeg. It is set on flat prairie land divided by the regular lines of the Dominion Land Survey. The city grew along Main Street, which runs north to south, and newer residential grids now spread east and west across former fields.
The town was founded in 1874 by Mennonite settlers from what is now Ukraine. Their heritage is preserved at the Mennonite Heritage Village, an open-air museum on the northern edge of town. Steinbach has since become one of Manitoba's largest cities, known as a regional centre for trade and car dealerships.
