Kaarta
Tanta sits in the middle of the Nile Delta, roughly halfway between the Rosetta and Damietta branches of the river. The land around it is flat and intensively farmed, divided into narrow fields by irrigation canals. On a map the city appears as a dense, compact mass of streets rising out of that patchwork, with canals and roads converging on it from every direction.
The city is an important rail junction, where several lines meet on their way between Cairo, Alexandria and the delta towns. Those tracks cut clear, straight lines through the city. The older centre has a tighter and more irregular street pattern, while outer districts follow the straighter lines of the canals and roads laid across the fields.
Tanta is best known for the Mosque of Sayyid Ahmad al-Badawi, a Sufi saint whose annual mawlid draws very large crowds. A Tanta map poster shows the city from above as a dense knot within the flat delta, where railways, canals and roads come together. The streets around the mosque form the focus of the old town.
Several rail lines converge on the city, drawing long straight strokes across the map and meeting near the centre in a clear pattern of tracks and yards.
Canals run through and around the city, their narrow lines continuing into the farmland beyond and linking Tanta to the wider delta network.
Around the great mosque the streets grow denser and less regular, forming the historic heart of the city and the most intricate part of the map.

Macah Tanta
For many Egyptians, Tanta is tied to family, to study at its university or to pilgrimage to the mosque. A map of the city holds those ties in a single calm, graphic image, whether it hangs at home or far away.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be personalised, for example with a family name or a date. Choose one of five styles, such as Paper or Sand. Download HD files for $9 or order a printed poster from a partner close to you.
