Tartarugalzinho lies in the Brazilian state of Amapá, north of the equator and not far from the Atlantic coast. The town takes its name from the Tartarugalzinho River, and the landscape around it is a mix of open savanna, forest patches and low, wet ground dotted with lakes. The BR-156 highway, the main road through Amapá, passes by the town.
