Kaarta
Taunsa, often called Taunsa Sharif, lies in the southwest of Punjab province, on the western side of the Indus River. On a map the river is the defining feature. It is a broad, braided channel with sandbanks and side streams, spread across a floodplain far wider than the town itself along this stretch of its course.
The town grew around the shrine of the Sufi saint Khwaja Shah Sulaiman Taunsvi, which still draws large numbers of visitors and gives Taunsa its honorific name. Its streets form a compact, irregular core. Roads lead out toward the river on one side and toward the dry country and the Sulaiman foothills on the other.
Downstream, the Taunsa Barrage spans the Indus and feeds irrigation canals that run across the surrounding plains in long straight lines. A Taunsa map poster sets the dense town against this larger landscape of water and fields. In this composition the river and canals carry as much weight as the streets.
The river splits into many channels and sandbars across a wide floodplain. These layered, shifting shapes give the map a strong natural texture.
The town centre gathers around the shrine of Khwaja Shah Sulaiman Taunsvi. Here the street pattern is at its densest and most irregular.
Canals fed by the Taunsa Barrage cut straight across the farmland near the river, a geometric counterpoint to the loose, organic lines of the Indus.

For people from Taunsa and the wider Dera Ghazi Khan area, the river, the shrine and the town together are a familiar sight. The poster is a calm, graphic way to keep that landscape in view, whether at home in Punjab or far away.
