Trelew Map Poster & Print
Trelew lies in the lower valley of the Chubut River in Argentine Patagonia. From above it is a clear rectangular grid of blocks and plazas, set just north of the river. On one side are irrigated fields with a fine pattern of ditches and field edges. On the other, the dry steppe stretches away almost empty.
The town grew up in the late nineteenth century around the railway built by Welsh settlers, and its name comes from Lewis Jones, one of the colony's leaders: Tre Lew, the town of Lewis. Chapels and tea houses across the valley still reflect that heritage.
Trelew is also known for the Egidio Feruglio Paleontological Museum, which displays some of Patagonia's major dinosaur finds. A Trelew map poster shows a grid built by settlers at the edge of a vast landscape, with river and farmland giving it a green margin.

North of the built-up area, streets stop abruptly and the map turns almost blank. That sharp edge between town and Patagonian plateau makes a strong graphic feature.
