Vandiyūr Map Poster & Print
Vandiyūr lies on the eastern side of Madurai in Tamil Nadu, close to the Vaigai river. From above, the neighbourhood is a mix of close residential streets and newer blocks, but its outline is dominated by one feature: the Vandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam, a large square temple tank with a pavilion on a central island, one of the biggest of its kind in the country.
The tank was built in the seventeenth century under the Nayak ruler Thirumalai Nayak. Each year it hosts the Float Festival, when deities from the Meenakshi temple are brought across the city and taken around the water on decorated rafts. For much of the year the tank is partly dry, and its broad steps and walls become a gathering place.
A Vandiyūr map poster places that square at the centre of the composition. Streets approach it from several sides, the Vaigai curves along the north, and Madurai's denser neighbourhoods fill the edges. The geometry of the tank gives the map a rare focal point, clean and symmetrical against the finer grain of the city.

Vaigai river
The river that runs through Madurai passes close by, adding a long, gently curving band across the northern part of the frame.
Eastern Madurai streets
Residential lanes and newer roads extend in every direction around the tank, forming a dense fabric that links Vandiyūr to the rest of the city.

Anyone who has watched the Float Festival or grown up near the tank will recognise this map instantly. The square of water gives it an unusually strong design, well suited to a living room or a gift for someone from Madurai.
Add your own title and subtitle, such as a family name or festival year, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose among five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and order either HD files or a matte print with an optional frame.
