Massinga is in Inhambane Province in southern Mozambique, on the national highway that runs up the country's coast. The road is the backbone of its map. The town centre gathers along it, and from there local streets and sandy tracks reach out into the surrounding settlement. Market areas and public buildings cluster near the highway, while houses and small fields spread out loosely beyond.
The land here is low and sandy, and the Indian Ocean coast lies a short distance to the east.
