Eman lies in the north-western part of Hainan, China's southern island province, not far from the coast facing the Beibu Gulf. The landscape here is low and open. Farmland, scattered villages and waterways run towards a shoreline shaped by bays and inlets. On a map, the town is a modest cluster of streets in wide coastal land.
