Epe lies in the east of Lagos State, on the northern shore of the Lagos Lagoon and well away from the dense core of the Lagos metropolis. It is a long-established town closely connected to the water, known for its fishing and its fish market. It is also the centre of a local government area that includes surrounding villages and farmland.
From above, the town is compact. Its streets are packed close to the waterfront and spread gradually inland towards farmland and forest. The shoreline is irregular, with inlets, landing points and wetlands, and the lagoon stretches south as an open surface. Main roads link Epe with Ikorodu to the west and with the fast-growing Lekki corridor to the south-west.
