Karahrūd sits in Markazi Province in central Iran, a short distance from Arak, the provincial capital. On a map it reads as a modest, tightly drawn settlement where residential blocks press close together and a few longer roads run across them. The street pattern is dense but not chaotic. Connecting roads leave the built-up area and cross the plain toward Arak. They are the strongest straight lines on the sheet and tie the small town to its much larger neighbour.
