L'Ancienne-Lorette Map Poster & Print

L'Ancienne-Lorette has an unusual shape on the map of Quebec. It is a small independent city entirely surrounded by Quebec City. From above it looks like a tidy patchwork of residential streets, curving crescents and a few straight arterial roads. The long runways of Jean Lesage International Airport lie just beyond its western side. The contrast between the fine domestic streets and the broad, blank airfield gives the drawing a clear sense of scale.

The name comes from the earliest chapter of the place. In the 1670s a Wendat mission called Lorette was founded here, named after the Italian shrine of Loreto. When the community moved north a few decades later, the original site became known as the old Lorette. The Lorette River still draws a thin line through the area. It is one of the few natural curves in an otherwise planned layout.

Our L'Ancienne-Lorette map poster draws all of this in clean black lines on white: every street, the course of the river, the geometry of the airport and the boundary where one municipality quietly becomes another. It suits anyone who grew up in these neighbourhoods or flies in and out of Quebec regularly. It also suits anyone who likes a map where a small town holds its own inside a larger city.
