Malacacheta is a municipality in the north-east of Minas Gerais, in the rolling interior of south-eastern Brazil. The landscape here is made of hills and valleys, and the town adapts to it. On a map, streets gather along the lower ground and then climb in shorter, steeper segments, so the urban area takes an irregular outline rather than a neat rectangular grid.
Like many towns in this part of Minas, Malacacheta has a central area around a main square and church, with residential streets spreading outward from there.
