Nerópolis lies in the state of Goiás, a short drive north of the state capital, Goiânia. From above, the town is compact and orderly. Its streets form a largely regular grid of rectangular blocks, with a few wider avenues crossing the centre. At the edges, the grid ends abruptly and the land opens up into fields and pasture.
The town sits in the cerrado region of central Brazil, where agriculture shapes the landscape. Its proximity to Goiânia means that Nerópolis is increasingly linked to the metropolitan area, and the highway connecting the two cities is one of the clearest lines on the map, leading south out of town.
