Venâncio Aires is a city in Rio Grande do Sul, in the region of the Rio Pardo and Taquari valleys. From above, it has a well-ordered central grid of long blocks, with residential streets extending outward and then giving way to rolling farmland crossed by rural roads and small streams.
The city calls itself the national capital of chimarrão, the traditional erva-mate infusion of southern Brazil, and it hosts the Fenachim festival dedicated to the drink. Tobacco growing is also important to the local economy, and the surrounding countryside is divided into many family farms.
