The valley thread
The whole town lines up along the Cherna River valley, so its streets form a long, narrow band that runs across the poster rather than gathering around one centre.

Smolyan Map Poster & Print
Smolyan stretches for kilometres along the valley of the Cherna River, deep in the Rhodope Mountains of southern Bulgaria. It is long and thin because the land leaves it no other choice. Main roads run with the river, and short, steep lanes climb out on both sides until they give way to forested slopes. On a map it reads less like a town than a thread pulled tight between the hills.
Because the town sits roughly a thousand metres above sea level, the terrain decides everything. Neighbourhoods that were once separate villages now sit one after another along the valley floor, joined by the same road. The street pattern changes as you move along it, from dense older clusters to looser modern blocks. Just outside town, the Smolyan Lakes lie among the woods, a string of small bodies of water.
A Smolyan map poster keeps all of that length in one frame. The composition is long and linear. One clear line of settlement cuts through blank mountain space, and the side streets branch off it like ribs. Smolyan is also known for its planetarium, one of the largest in Bulgaria, and for being a gateway to the Pamporovo ski area to the north.

Contour-bound lanes
Side streets zigzag up the slopes in short switchbacks and dead ends. This is the mark of a town built on hillsides, and it gives the print a fine, nervous texture along its edges.
Smolyan Lakes
A small chain of lakes lies in the forest near town. They appear as a few quiet shapes set apart from the built-up valley.

Məna daşıyan xəritə
For people from the Rhodopes, this map is recognisable at a glance. It shows a town that follows its river through the mountains, the way it has always been described at home. It suits anyone who grew up there, studied there or passed through on the way to the slopes.
You can add a family name, a year or the town's coordinates to the title line. Then choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint and Paper both show the long valley line particularly well.
