Miramas Map Poster & Print
Miramas lies in the Bouches-du-Rhône, just north of the Étang de Berre, on the eastern edge of the flat Crau plain. It is really two places. The old village, Miramas-le-Vieux, sits on a rocky height with fortified walls and narrow lanes, and the modern town grew on the plain below after the railway arrived in the nineteenth century.
The railway still dominates the map. Miramas has one of the largest rail marshalling yards in France, a long band of parallel tracks beside the town, along with logistics platforms that serve the port of Marseille-Fos. Miramas-le-Vieux looks out over the étang, and an automotive test circuit lies on the plain nearby.
