Low polar plains
The island's interior is flat and open with no roads or settlements. On paper it reads as a pale, uninterrupted landmass defined only by its edges.

Amund Ringnes Island Map Poster & Print
Amund Ringnes Island is one of the Sverdrup Islands in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, in the territory of Nunavut. It is uninhabited, low and largely flat, a landscape of gravel plains, shallow valleys and sparse tundra that spends most of the year under snow and sea ice. From above the island is broad and irregular, with long bays, peninsulas and channels separating it from its neighbours.
The island takes its name from Amund Ringnes, one of the Norwegian brewing brothers who helped fund Otto Sverdrup's Arctic expedition aboard the Fram at the turn of the twentieth century. Nearby Ellef Ringnes Island is named after his brother, and the two islands face each other across a narrow sound.
With no roads, towns or buildings, an Amund Ringnes Island map poster is purely a study of shape: an intricate coastline, the channels between islands and the white space of the polar sea. The result is abstract and quiet, closer to a drawing of an Arctic outline than a street map, and all the more striking for it.

The Ringnes pair
Amund and Ellef Ringnes Islands lie side by side, named after two brothers who sponsored Sverdrup's expedition, and a wider framing shows both across the sound.
Indented coastline
Long bays and peninsulas give the outline a detailed, irregular edge that fills a large print with intricate linework.
