Aurād lies in the Bidar district in the far north of Karnataka, close to the borders with Maharashtra and Telangana. This is Deccan plateau country, broad and relatively level, and on a map the town appears as a compact settlement set within a wide expanse of agricultural land.
The centre is closely built, with narrow streets clustered together, while roads leave the town in several directions toward villages and neighbouring market centres. Beyond the edge of the built area, the map becomes sparse, marked mainly by rural roads and the occasional small settlement along them.
