Mapa
Bakersfield Map Poster & Print
Bakersfield sits near the southern end of California's San Joaquin Valley, where the Kern River flows out of the Sierra Nevada onto the valley floor. On a map the city is a wide grid of straight streets and large blocks. The river and the railway lines break it diagonally, and Highway 99 runs north to south through the middle.
The city is a centre for farming and energy. Oil fields lie to the north and west, among the most productive in the state, and farmland stretches across the valley in every direction. Bakersfield also gave its name to the Bakersfield sound, the stripped-back style of country music associated with Buck Owens and Merle Haggard in the 1950s and 1960s.
A Bakersfield map poster is defined by its scale and regularity. The grid extends outward in almost every direction, and the Kern River cuts a green, winding corridor through the northern part of the city. The older downtown sits near the rail lines. The long straight roads and wide suburban blocks make a strong, graphic print, particularly in the more technical styles.

Downtown and railways
The older centre sits beside the rail lines that shaped the city's growth. Its denser grid stands out from the wider suburban blocks around it.
Valley grid
Streets extend in a regular pattern of square-mile sections across the flat valley floor, giving the poster long straight lines and a clear, orderly structure.
