Section-line arterials
Major roads follow the old one-mile survey grid of the Midwest. They frame the town in large squares that give the map a steady, orderly structure.

Mapa
Darien Map Poster & Print
Darien lies in southern DuPage County, among the western suburbs of Chicago. From above it shows postwar suburban planning clearly. Section-line arterials run north to south and east to west. Within each square mile, curving residential streets, cul-de-sacs and loops take a softer course. Small ponds and green strips break up the neighbourhoods and give the map a gentle rhythm.
Interstate 55, the Stevenson Expressway, marks the town's southern edge. Its firm straight band contrasts with the meandering subdivisions to the north. Beyond it, the wooded Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve appears as a large open space. In black and white it is one of the most striking features of this part of the map.
A Darien map poster suits people who know the town through its everyday geography: the school run, the walk to the park, the drive to the expressway. The arterial grid keeps the composition orderly. The looping streets inside it give each neighbourhood a recognisable pattern, so it is easy to find a particular house or block.

Curving subdivisions
Inside the grid, residential streets bend into loops and cul-de-sacs. The pattern is typical of later twentieth-century suburbs and looks very graphic in fine line.
Interstate 55 edge
The Stevenson Expressway runs along the south side of Darien, a bold line that separates the neighbourhoods from the forest preserve land beyond it.

Zašto Darien
Mapa koja nešto znači
Many people hang a Darien map to mark a first house, a childhood street or a move to the Chicago area. The suburban pattern is personal in a quiet way. Each loop and cul-de-sac belongs to a handful of families, and the map gives that familiar geography a considered form.
Add your own title and a subtitle such as a street name or a move-in date, and keep or edit the coordinates line. Pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Then download HD files for $9 or order a matte print, with a wooden frame if you like.
