Mapa
East Meadow Map Poster & Print
East Meadow is a hamlet in the Town of Hempstead, in Nassau County on Long Island, New York. It sits on the flat Hempstead Plains, once a rare natural grassland, which was rapidly developed into suburban housing after the Second World War. From above, its map is dominated by long residential blocks and the curving streets of postwar subdivisions.
Eisenhower Park, one of the largest parks in the county, occupies the northern part of the community and includes golf courses and the Nassau County Aquatic Center. East Meadow is also home to Nassau University Medical Center. Hempstead Turnpike runs east to west through the hamlet, and the Meadowbrook State Parkway forms a clear line along its western side.
An East Meadow map poster sets the large open rectangle of the park against the fine, repeated pattern of house lots and streets. The contrast between green space and suburban grid gives the print a clear structure, making it an appealing portrait of one of Long Island's classic suburbs.

Hempstead Turnpike
This major commercial road crosses East Meadow from west to east, a strong line of shops and services dividing the residential streets on either side.
Postwar subdivisions
Curving roads, cul-de-sacs and evenly sized lots cover much of the hamlet, a pattern laid down during the housing boom after 1945 and very clear on the poster.
