Mapa
Enschede Map Poster & Print
Enschede is the largest city in Twente, in the east of the Netherlands, close to the German border. Its map is organised in rings. A compact centre with its market square is surrounded by an inner ring of boulevards, the singels, and beyond them residential districts, former industrial sites and green belts spread outward toward the surrounding countryside.
The city grew as a centre of the Dutch textile industry, and former mills have been converted into housing, offices and cultural spaces. The University of Twente occupies a green, wooded campus on the city's northwestern edge. In 2000, a fireworks warehouse explosion devastated the Roombeek district, which has since been rebuilt with new architecture.
An Enschede map poster shows the clear structure of a mid-sized European city. The ring road around the centre, the radial roads leading out, and the large blocks of former industry form a readable composition. In black and white, the woodland of the campus and the parks softens the edges.

University of Twente campus
On the northwestern edge, the university campus lies within woodland, where scattered buildings and curving paths contrast with the city's denser streets.
Former textile districts
Large sites once used by textile mills appear as broad blocks among housing. Many have been redeveloped, including the rebuilt Roombeek neighbourhood.
