The mountain spine
A single ridge runs the length of the island, and almost every road on the map is shaped by it, climbing in tight bends between the two coasts.

Icaria Map Poster & Print
Icaria is shaped like a narrow blade laid across the eastern Aegean, running from west to east with a mountain spine down its full length. There is little flat ground. On a map the roads show it plainly, doubling back on themselves as they climb from the coast over the ridge, and the villages sit scattered across the slopes rather than gathered in one place.
The main port, Agios Kirykos, lies on the southern shore, with the thermal springs of Therma a short distance along the coast. On the north side, Evdilos and Armenistis face a rougher sea and a coastline of small coves. The island takes its name from the myth of Icarus, who is said to have fallen into the waters nearby after flying too close to the sun.
In recent decades Icaria has become known for the unusual longevity of its residents and is often cited as one of the world's Blue Zones, with slow days and hillside gardens part of the explanation usually offered. An Icaria map poster shows the ground behind that reputation: few straight lines, many bends, and a sea that is never far from any point on the island.

Agios Kirykos harbour
The island's main port on the south coast gathers the densest cluster of streets, a compact settlement pressed between the steep hillside and the harbour.
Northern coves
Between Evdilos and Armenistis the northern coast is cut into small bays and beaches, a more irregular edge than the steep, straight southern shore.

Zašto Icaria
Mapa koja nešto znači
An Icaria poster tends to belong to people who have spent a slow summer there, or who carry family roots from its villages. The long ridge and its winding roads make an image that is easy to recognise yet quietly detailed, suited to a hallway or a study.
Personalise it with a village name, a family surname or the year you visited, and pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download six print sizes as 300 DPI PNG and PDF for $9, or have it printed and shipped.
