Las Torres de Cotillas lies in the Region of Murcia, a short distance north-west of Murcia city, on the plain of the Segura river. This is huerta country, a landscape of irrigated orchards and fields watered by an old network of channels. The town grew among that farmland, and its map still shows the patchwork of plots around its edges.
The built-up area is compact, with a central core and residential extensions spreading toward the main roads. The Segura runs close by, winding through the valley, and bare, sun-dried hills rise beyond the irrigated land.
