Mehar is in Dadu district, Sindh, on the flat alluvial plain west of the Indus. The landscape around it has been shaped by irrigation. Canals and smaller channels cross the land in long lines, and the fields between them form a patchwork of rectangles. The town is a denser cluster in the middle of this farmland, with roads leading out to villages and to the district's other towns.
The town's centre has the tight streets and market lanes typical of older towns in Sindh. The newer areas around it are more spread out, with blocks and main roads where the town has grown. Since the land is almost completely flat, the map's shapes come mainly from human work: water channels, roads, field edges and the built-up core.
