Oberursel lies at the foot of the Taunus mountains, northwest of Frankfurt am Main. The Urselbach stream runs through the town, and in earlier centuries it powered mills along its course. The old town, with half-timbered houses and the church of St. Ursula on its hill, sits at the heart of a much larger modern town.
From above, Oberursel shows a clear gradient. The south and east are flatter and closer to Frankfurt, with denser streets, while the north climbs into forested hills toward the Großer Feldberg. The U3 line of the Frankfurt U-Bahn runs through the town to its terminus at Hohemark, on the edge of the woods. Oberursel is also known for its long-established aircraft engine works.
