Oschersleben lies in the Börde district of Saxony-Anhalt, west of Magdeburg, in one of the flattest and most fertile farming landscapes in Germany. On the map the town is a small, compact core surrounded by large rectangular fields. Roads leave the centre in several directions like spokes, and the edge between built-up streets and open land is unusually clear.
The river Bode passes the town, and its course, together with the drainage channels and green strips along it, adds soft curves to an otherwise angular landscape. The old centre shows the tighter, irregular lanes of a historic market town, while newer residential areas and industrial sites spread out on straighter streets toward the periphery.
