Rāmtek lies northeast of Nagpur in Maharashtra, at the foot of a hill crowned by a fortified temple complex dedicated to Rama. The hill, known as Ramgiri, is the focal point of the town. On a map, streets gather around its base, while paths and steps climb its slopes toward the temples enclosed by walls at the top.
Water is a strong presence in the surrounding landscape. Several lakes and reservoirs lie close by, including Khindsi Lake, a popular place for boating, and the Ambala tank near the hill, which pilgrims visit. Forest extends northward toward the Pench area, so the map shows the town as a compact settlement between hill, water and woodland.
Tradition holds that Rama stayed here during his exile. The hill is also widely identified with Ramagiri in Kalidasa's Meghaduta, where an exiled yaksha sends a message to his beloved through a passing cloud. A Rāmtek map poster frames this sacred and literary landscape in a clear, graphic form.
