Residential canals
Narrow canals push inland from Lake St. Clair between rows of houses, giving the shoreline its distinctive comb-like pattern and letting residents moor boats beside their homes.

Mapa
Saint Clair Shores Map Poster & Print
Saint Clair Shores lies along the western shore of Lake St. Clair, just north of Detroit in Macomb County. From above, it is a dense suburban grid of short blocks and long parallel streets, bounded by the lake on one side and cut through by the Interstate on the other. The shoreline is the most distinctive part of the map, broken into small inlets.
Those inlets are canals, dug so that homes could have their own boat access to the lake. They give the eastern edge of the city a comb-like texture that looks almost architectural in black and white. Jefferson Avenue runs close to the water, and its stretch of marinas and restaurants is known locally as the Nautical Mile.
A Saint Clair Shores map poster captures a place where land and water are carefully negotiated, block by block. The inland streets are orderly and repetitive, while the shore dissolves into slips, basins and piers. It is a good map for anyone who spent summers on the lake or grew up a short walk from the water.

The Nautical Mile
Along Jefferson Avenue, a stretch of marinas, boat clubs and waterfront businesses sits close to the lake, one of the most recognisable parts of the city.
Suburban grid
West of the shore, the city settles into a regular grid of residential streets, a quiet, even texture that contrasts sharply with the busy edge of the water.
