Sainte-Catherine is a Quebec municipality in the lowlands of the St. Lawrence valley, where the landscape is flat, open and shaped by water. From above, the map shows quiet residential streets and a few main roads, with the land around them divided in the typical Quebec way.
That division is the region's signature. The old seigneurial system cut land into long, narrow lots that run back from rivers and roads, and their parallel lines still show up clearly on a map. Newer suburban streets, with crescents and cul-de-sacs, sit next to this older pattern, and the contrast gives the sheet its character.
