The circular parterre
Just behind the palace, curved wings frame a large circle of formal beds and paths. It's the most distinctive shape on the map and unmistakable even at small print sizes.

Mapa
Schwetzingen Map Poster & Print
Schwetzingen lies on the flat Upper Rhine Plain between Mannheim and Heidelberg in Baden-Württemberg. On a map one feature outweighs everything else: the palace and its enormous garden, which take up a large share of the town's western side. The palace faces a square that opens onto the older streets. The gardens stretch away behind it in geometric lines, then give way to looser, winding paths.
The palace was the summer residence of the Electors Palatine, and under Elector Carl Theodor in the eighteenth century the gardens grew into one of the best known in Europe. They combine a formal French layout with an English landscape garden and include a garden mosque. The young Mozart visited the court here. Today the town is also known as a centre of asparagus growing and hosts an annual music festival.
A Schwetzingen map poster brings out that contrast. On one side are the regular, compact streets of the town. On the other is the crisp symmetry of the palace grounds, with the circular parterre at their heart and a long central axis running toward the open fields. It's a rare case where a garden plan is as recognisable from above as the town beside it.

Garden axis
A long straight axis runs from the palace through the gardens toward the west. It sets the direction of the whole layout and ties the town to the surrounding plain.
Landscape garden
Around the formal centre, the English-style sections break into winding paths, ponds and irregular groves, a softer texture that contrasts with the geometry nearby.

Zašto Schwetzingen
Mapa koja nešto znači
Schwetzingen suits anyone who loves gardens, baroque architecture or the Rhine-Neckar region. It's a fitting memento of a spring visit in asparagus season or an evening at the festival, and a natural choice for a wedding held in the palace grounds.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example a date and a pair of names. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint works especially well for the precise geometry of the palace garden.
