Indented coastline
Deep bays notch the shoreline on all sides, creating a sequence of sheltered inlets and headlands that gives the island its jagged, uneven silhouette.

Mapa
Shikotan Map Poster & Print
Shikotan is the largest island of the Lesser Kuril chain and lies east of Hokkaido in the northwest Pacific. It is administered by Russia and claimed by Japan, and is one of the islands at the centre of a long-standing territorial dispute. On a map its outline is compact but heavily indented, with bays cutting into every side and headlands pushing out between them.
The interior rises into rounded hills covered in grass and mixed forest, and streams run down to the coast. Most people live in two settlements at the heads of sheltered bays, Malokurilskoye and Krabozavodskoye, where fishing and fish processing have long shaped daily life. Roads are few, and much of the island has no lines on the map at all.
A Shikotan map poster is mostly about the coast. The bays give the edges a strong, scalloped rhythm, and the two small grids of streets sit at the water's edge like anchor points. Against the open ocean, the island reads as a distinct, self-contained shape that fills a sheet well at any of the six sizes.

Malokurilskoye
The main settlement lies at the head of a deep, narrow bay on the north coast. Its streets are packed onto the flat ground where the bay ends.
Hilly interior
Rounded hills fill the middle of the island and are crossed by only a few tracks. The empty centre draws attention back to the coastline and the settlements in its bays.

Zašto Shikotan
Mapa koja nešto znači
Few people visit Shikotan, and that is part of its pull. For anyone connected to the Kurils, whether through family, work or a long interest in the region, a map is an understated way to keep the island close, without the noise that often surrounds its name.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be personalised, so you decide which name, date or phrase appears. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. The digital files come as 300 DPI PNG and print-ready PDF in six sizes, with no watermark.
