Terbanggi Besar lies in Central Lampung regency, in the southern part of Sumatra. Its position is what gives it significance: this is where the Trans-Sumatra Highway passes and where the toll road from the ferry port at Bakauheni reaches its northern end on the first completed section. From above, these long routes cut through the district as clear, dominant lines.
The main settlement, around Bandar Jaya, gathers along the highway, with shops and services close to the road and residential streets branching off behind. Beyond them, the land opens into fields and plantations, with scattered villages linked by smaller roads. The terrain is mostly flat, so the map is shaped almost entirely by roads and farmland rather than by hills or water.
