Wyrley and Essington Canal
The canal winds through Wednesfield along a level contour, drawing a meandering line across the map that stands apart from the more regular street pattern.

Mapa
Wednesfield Map Poster & Print
Wednesfield lies on the north-eastern side of Wolverhampton in the West Midlands. Its name is usually traced to the Anglo-Saxon god Woden, and the area is linked to the Battle of Tettenhall of 910, sometimes called the Battle of Wednesfield. Today the map shows a settled, largely residential township with a traditional high street at its heart.
The Wyrley and Essington Canal runs through the district, following the contour in long, loose curves that contrast with the straighter roads around it. The township was also known for its trades, particularly the making of animal traps, and small industrial plots still appear among the housing.
A Wednesfield map poster traces the older centre, the canal and the layers of housing that grew around them through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Printed in black and white, the canal becomes an elegant thread through an otherwise closely packed network of streets.

High street centre
The traditional shopping street and the roads converging on it form the densest point in the township, where older buildings sit close together.
Layered housing estates
Victorian terraces, interwar semis and later estates each leave a distinct street pattern, giving the map a varied texture from one neighbourhood to the next.
