Converging rail lines
Several railway corridors cross near the historic centre, cutting diagonals through the grid. They are the clearest trace of the junction that gave the town its start.

Mapa
West Chicago Map Poster & Print
West Chicago began as a railroad junction, and that origin is still visible from above. Rail lines cross near the old centre and fan out in different directions, dividing the town into sections that each have their own street pattern. The downtown blocks sit close to the tracks, while newer subdivisions spread outward in curving loops and cul-de-sacs.
The town was first known as Turner Junction, named for the place where early lines met on the way west from Chicago. Today it is part of DuPage County's suburban belt. It still has large industrial parcels, an airport nearby and wide areas of preserved land, and on the map these break up the residential fabric in a way that feels less uniform than many suburbs.
A West Chicago map poster shows the town's working character: the straight lines of rail and highway, the older grid near the centre and the softer shapes of forest preserves and ponds at the edges. It is a quieter Midwestern composition, with its structure set by transport more than by a river or a coastline.

Downtown grid
The older core keeps a compact set of rectangular blocks next to the tracks, much denser than the looping residential streets built later around it.
Prairie and preserves
Wide green areas and scattered ponds surround the town, leaving blank patches on the map that set off the neighbourhoods and industrial parks.
