The White Horse
The chalk figure is cut into the escarpment below Bratton Camp, east of the town. It sits just beyond the streets and anchors the map's relationship to the downland above.

Mapa
Westbury Map Poster & Print
Westbury lies on the western edge of Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, where the chalk upland drops steeply to the clay vale below. On a map the town spreads across the lower ground. Its older streets gather around the market place, newer housing extends outward, and the escarpment to the east marks a clear boundary where the street pattern stops.
The town is known for the Westbury White Horse, a large figure cut into the slope beneath Bratton Camp, an Iron Age hillfort on the escarpment. The present horse dates from a remodelling in the late eighteenth century. Westbury is also a railway junction, and the tracks curving around the town add strong, sweeping lines to the map.
A Westbury map poster shows a town defined by its edge. Streets fill the vale and then give way abruptly to the open downland of the plain. In monochrome the railway curves, the compact old centre and the empty chalk country above combine into a composition with a clear sense of place and landscape.

Railway junction
Lines from several directions meet at Westbury, and the tracks sweep around the town in long curves that frame the built-up area on the poster.
Edge of the plain
Salisbury Plain rises sharply east of the town. On the map dense streets give way to open ground with very few roads, a contrast that defines the layout.
