Zarqān lies in Fars province, a short distance north-east of Shiraz, on the high plain that runs toward Marvdasht. The main road between the two passes by the town, and its long straight line is one of the first things you notice on the map. Streets branch off it into residential quarters, with orchards and fields around them.
The setting is defined by contrast between the flat, cultivated land of the basin and the bare Zagros ridges rising in the distance.
