Bad Nauheim sits in the Wetterau in Hesse, on the eastern slopes of the Taunus hills north of Frankfurt. From above, the town reads as two halves held together by green: a dense centre of short, irregular streets, and a broad spa park stretching along the small Usa river. Residential streets climb gently towards wooded high ground to the west, while open farmland takes over quickly to the east.
The town grew around its saline springs, and the spa still shapes the plan. Curving park paths, a large pond and the long lines of the saltworks graduation towers show up as soft, organic forms against the straighter streets around them. Bad Nauheim is also known for the Sprudelhof, one of Europe's largest Art Nouveau bath complexes, whose symmetrical courtyards show clearly even at street-map scale.
