Chenôve sits directly south of Dijon, and on a map the two run together. Suburban blocks and housing estates fill the flat ground near the valley. To the west the land rises sharply toward a wooded limestone plateau, and the street pattern thins out and breaks up as the slope gets steeper. The hillside acts as a clear western edge.
Between the built-up lower town and the plateau lies a band of vineyards. This is the northern end of the Côte, the wine slope that runs south toward Beaune. The old village core sits higher on the hill, close to the vines. Its lanes are tighter and more irregular than the planned districts below, which makes it easy to spot on the page.
Chenôve is known for its ducal wine presses, large medieval presses kept in the old village, and for being the terminus of one of Dijon's tram lines. A Chenôve map poster shows a place where city and wine country meet. The grid of apartment blocks gives way to the long lines of the slope.
