Dimbaza Map Poster & Print
Dimbaza is near Qonce, formerly King William's Town, in the Eastern Cape. It was established in the 1960s as a resettlement township under apartheid, when people were forcibly moved into what later became the Ciskei homeland. The 1974 documentary Last Grave at Dimbaza brought the conditions here to international attention.
The map reflects that history. Unlike older towns in the region, Dimbaza was laid out in one planning effort. It has repeated rows of small plots, straight and gently curved streets, and clearly separated sections. Open veld surrounds the township, and the Amathole hills rise to the north, adding a darker, more irregular landscape around the settled area.
