Glugor, often spelled Gelugor, lies on the eastern side of Penang Island, a few kilometres south of the historic centre of George Town. It sits between the hills of the island's interior and the channel facing the mainland, so the map shows a band of dense development squeezed between green slopes to the west and open water to the east.
The largest single feature is the main campus of Universiti Sains Malaysia, a wide, leafy site whose buildings and internal roads form a distinct pattern within the suburb. Around it are housing estates, apartment towers and older neighbourhoods, laced together by a few busy arterial roads running roughly north to south along the coast.
Glugor is also where the Penang Bridge reaches the island, its long straight deck leaving the shore and running across the strait to Seberang Perai.
