Valley outline
Steep ridges on both sides limit the built-up area to a long, narrow strip. The sharp boundary between streets and forest is the most striking thing on the map.

El mapa
Kalihi Valley Map Poster & Print
Kalihi Valley runs inland from urban Honolulu towards the steep Ko'olau Range. From above, it is a long, narrow shape. Houses and streets fill the lower valley floor and climb onto its sides, and they end abruptly where the slopes become too steep and give way to forest. Kalihi Stream runs down the middle towards the coast.
The Likelike Highway follows the valley up towards the Wilson Tunnel, which passes through the Ko'olau to reach the windward side of the island. On the map, the highway is a strong, rising line along the valley. The residential streets branch off it in a tight, ribbed pattern that follows the contours.
A Kalihi Valley map poster shows a Honolulu neighbourhood defined almost entirely by its landform: the valley walls, the stream and the single main road leading into the mountains. It suits families with deep roots in Kalihi and anyone who knows how different O'ahu's valleys feel from its beaches.
