Kalush lies in the Prykarpattia region, on gently rolling ground between the Carpathian foothills and the Dniester basin. From above, the town reads as a compact historic centre with a loose ring of later districts around it: blocks of apartment buildings, private houses on long plots, and industrial areas on the outskirts. Small rivers and streams cut through the surrounding fields and give the edges of the map some soft, irregular lines.
The town is best known for potassium salt. Deposits in the area have been mined for centuries, and in the twentieth century Kalush became a centre of the chemical industry. More recently, the town's name reached a much wider audience through Kalush Orchestra, the band that took its name from the town and won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2022.
A Kalush map poster captures that mix of the small market town and the industrial settlement. The older streets meet near the centre, larger rectangular blocks mark the Soviet-era neighbourhoods, and the wider footprints of the industrial zones sit further out. Postwar residential areas appear as regular blocks with generous open space between buildings, a clear contrast to the narrow plots of the older private-house streets.
Industrial fringe
Mining and chemical sites on the outskirts leave large, geometric footprints and rail spurs that show where the town's twentieth-century growth came from.
