From above, the town fits into a valley floor, with its streets and buildings following the line of the river and the main road. Farm fields fill the flatter ground nearby, and the slopes around the valley stay mostly empty on the map.
The town is the seat of Kilju County, a mountainous area that most outsiders know only through news reports about the region.
