Laï Map Poster
Laï is the capital of Tandjilé Province in southwestern Chad, built on the banks of the Logone as the river flows north toward its meeting with the Chari. The water shapes the town's layout: streets run roughly parallel to the river, and beyond the built-up area the land opens into a broad floodplain that changes with the seasons.
In the rainy season the Logone spreads across its flats and much of the surrounding country becomes wetland. In the dry months the river shrinks back into its main channel, and the plain returns to farming and grazing. The river has long served as a route for travel and trade, and the life of the town is closely tied to it.
