Meylan lies just northeast of Grenoble, on the right bank of the Isère in the Grésivaudan valley. On a map it forms a long band between the river and the mountains: flat land near the water, then streets that climb in curves and switchbacks toward the limestone wall of the Saint-Eynard, the southern edge of the Chartreuse massif.
The town is largely residential, with houses, small apartment buildings and gardens spread over the lower slopes, and many cul-de-sacs following the lie of the land. Meylan is also home to Inovallée, a technology park founded in the early 1970s for research and high-tech companies, its buildings set among lawns and trees.
Meylan is often counted among the more comfortable addresses of the Grenoble area, with views across the valley to Belledonne and the Vercors.
