Réallon occupies a large territory in the Hautes-Alpes, reaching from slopes that overlook Lac de Serre-Ponçon up into the mountains to the north. The old village sits on the hillside with the water in view, and a road winds up the valley of the Réallon torrent to the ski station higher in the mountains. From above, the commune reads as a long corridor that climbs away from the lake.
At seventy-one square kilometres, much of the commune is high, uninhabited ground, so the map is shaped as much by water and slope as by roads. The torrent draws a clear line down the valley, forest thins into open slopes, and the ski station appears as a small built cluster at the head of the road. Réallon is known as a family resort with wide views over the lake.
