Rožnov pod Radhoštěm lies in the Wallachia region of eastern Moravia, in the valley of the Rožnovská Bečva river beneath the Beskydy mountains. The name means Rožnov below Radhošť, the mountain that rises above the valley nearby. On the map the town stretches along the valley floor, with the river, the main road and the railway running side by side through it.
Side streets climb the slopes on either side, and scattered houses reach well into the hills, a settlement pattern typical of Wallachian mountain country. Rožnov is known for the Wallachian Open-Air Museum, one of the oldest open-air museums in Central Europe, where wooden buildings from the region have been moved and preserved.
